The centre opened in 2000 and offers the Kumon Maths and English Programmes to children of all ages and abilities. It is a thriving, vibrant centre with students currently ranging from four to 18 years old.
The centre is conveniently located in the Sacred Heart Church, very close to the heart of town. The classroom is light and airy, and students enjoy the calm, friendly and supportive atmosphere.
Many students at the centre have gone onto gain scholarships, pass entrance exams, study A-level maths and used the skills they have learnt at Kumon in further education.
Students attend the centre once or twice a week and spend approximately 30 minutes for each subject studied at the centre. The Instructor and the eight trained assistants support students’ learning by observing and guiding them as they study.
In class, new students and young learners work in a dedicated area alongside two assistants, students enrolled on the English programme have their oral reading skills assessed, and those on the maths programme develop their mental arithmetic and times tables skills.
Due to time slotting, there are never any more than fifteen students in class at any given time.
Through daily study, both at the study centre and independently at home, Kumon goes further than traditional methods of tuition by ensuring students maintain a level of development every day.
The unique Kumon Maths and English Programmes pursue the potential of each child by developing confident, independent learners through individualised, advanced study.
