Kip McGrath Brighouse & Elland Centre is run by Debra and Frank Page, qualified teachers and parents of three children.
We offer affordable private tuition in English, Maths and 11 plus grammar school entry tests, for children aged between 6 and 16, living in the Calderdale area. Experienced, professionally qualified teachers, trained in Kip McGrath's established approach, help to make the school National Curriculum more accessible to those children experiencing difficulties whilst providing greater challenges to more able students.
Each child is given a free assessment, aimed at finding exactly where they are struggling or where extra challenge may be appropriate. We will create a tailor-made programme to suit their individual needs. In our purpose-equipped education centre, we have a range of resources, including unique computer programmes, worksheets and text books as well as more tactile activities aimed at younger pupils or those with specific learning difficulties.
WHAT SUBJECTS DO YOU TEACH?
English, Maths and Science
WHAT AGES DO YOU TEACH?
6-16 usually for English and Maths (11-16 for Science) but we can also help with exam re-takes for over 16s and Professional Skills Tests for adults. We specialise in 11+ tuition in Brighouse.
DO YOU TUTOR EXAM PREPARATION FOR SELECTIVE SCHOOL ENTRANCE?
Yes, but it’s imperative you contact us in advance to give your child the best chance of success, allowing them to prepare thoroughly without putting too much stress on them.
HOW DO I KNOW IF MY CHILD IS HAVING TROUBLE WITH THEIR SCHOOL WORK AND WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT IT?
Parents’ evenings are often the best way to give an indication as to whether your child is struggling in their studies. You can also try communicating with them and finding out what areas of Maths and English they struggle with in their homework. Constantly asking for help, tears and tantrums or having to constantly nag them to get them to their homework can all be telltale signs that the work is getting too hard for them.
HOW DO I KNOW THAT MY CHILD WILL IMPROVE?
We guarantee to work with your child until they feel confident to flourish and no longer feel daunted by the prospect of the problematic area. Combined with our tutoring, school work and extra homework from ourselves and school; your child will instantly improve both academically and in self-confidence.
HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE TO SOLVE MY CHILD’S PROBLEM?
Every child is different, so it’s important they come in for a FREE Assessment so we can come up with a plan and targets for them to work towards. There is no contract or obligation to attend for a long period of time, but we’ll regularly provide parental feedback so you know exactly how your child is doing.
CAN YOU TUTOR MY CHILD WITH A DISABILITY?
We’ve taught children with ADHD, Aspergers, Dyslexia, Autism and others in the past. But it’s very important you get in touch and set up an interview with us, so we can establish whether we can effectively tutor him/her. We want to offer the best for your child, so this is a very important process, but we’re always willing to go the extra mile regardless of any disabilities. Please call for more details.
DO YOU TUTOR FROM HOME?
No. All of our tutoring is done in our centre so your child has access to all of our top learning packages and technology in an optimal learning environment, without any distractions.
HOW LONG IS EACH LESSON?
80 minutes. The lessons are broken up in 10-15 minute activities so your child never gets bored.
WHAT TIMES ARE THE SESSIONS HELD?
There are a variety of times available; Monday to Saturday, please get in touch to find out more.
WILL MY CHILD GET HOMEWORK?
Yes. Homework is an essential part of Kip McGrath Tuition, particularly for the reading aspect of tuition. We are aware of other homework from school, so we only set a limit of around half an hour to an hour's work each week. If you have difficulty getting your child to complete the homework, please speak to us.
HOW SHOULD I HELP MY CHILD DURING MY CHILD’S TUITION AT KIP MCGRATH?
Inform your child’s school teacher they’re attending extra tuition so you can be informed with any improvements and areas which need attention outside of school hours. With homework, ensure you set a distraction free environment for your child to learn in.
